HBO’s app for streaming live episodes, HBO Go, is now available in the Philippines exclusively on SKYcable. The Philippines is the second territory in Asia to be offered the premium broadband streaming service, which was first released last year in Hong Kong.
The broadband streaming service allows users to enjoy over 1,000 hours of uncut HBO and CINEMAX Original content on multiple devices including computers, tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android) anywhere, anytime.
Subscribers of HBO GO will be the first to watch HBO and CINEMAX Original series such as Game Of Thrones, True Detective, Girls, Veepand Strike Back, 12-hours after they premiere in the U.S., even before they air on HBO.
HBO GO enables subscribers unlimited access to an extensive library of original movies, concerts, documentaries, and series, including complete seasons of all-time favorites like Sex And The City, Band Of Brothers, The Pacific, The Sopranos, and Entourage, and thought-provoking titles like Angels In America and John Adams. Special behind-the-scenes content of HBO Originals such as Boardwalk Empire, True Blood and Banshee is also available exclusively on HBO GO.

“HBO GO is a versatile service enabling subscribers to maximize their HBO experience across multiple devices, whether at home or on the move. Available exclusively to SKYcable in the Philippines, subscribers of HBO GO can enjoy watching over 1,000 hours of quality HBO Original content 12-hours after U.S. telecast. This helps combat piracy and gives subscribers an opportunity to catch the newest episodes of their favorite HBO shows earlier,” said Jonathan Spink, Chief Executive Officer, HBO Asia.
Carlo L. Katigbak, CEO and President of SKY Cable Corporation said, “The Philippines is only the second country in Asia to carry HBO GO. HBO’s decision to launch it here indicates the great potential in our country, and their utmost trust in SKY.”
According to GfK Asia, the Philippines ranks as the fourth largest market for smartphone devices among Southeast Asian countries based on research done in the first nine months of 2013 .
In a separate study conducted by TNS, it has been found that in Metro Manila alone, consumers own an average of 4.6 devices inclusive of laptops, tablets, desktop PCs, and smart TV’s.
There has also been a growth in terms of wireless connectivity available in the country as seen through the rise of high speed Internet services such as LTE. With all these factors coming into play, it’s the perfect time to HBO GO to enter the Philippines.
