MEC, Tellabs partnership announced

For Tellabs, partnering with MEC is a no-brainer because of the company’s track record when it comes to nationwide reach and its support in the business environment in the Philippines.

Optical networking solutions provider Tellabs has announced the appointment of MEC Networks Corporation as its authorized channel partner within the Tellabs PartnerPlus Program for the Optical LAN (local area network) solutions.

Under the agreement, which was signed by both parties, MEC will sell, and provide system integration and maintenance support to customers throughout the Philippines.

“Our agreement with MEC will help Tellabs provide the advantages of Optical LAN to a new set of customers in the Philippines,” said Dion Asencio, country manager and sales director of Tellabs Philippines. “While Tellabs is an established vendor in the Philippines telecom industry, we are looking to extend the benefits of Optical LAN to customers in enterprise vertical markets across all sectors.”

The US-based Tellabs has been in the business since 1975. The company, a provider of data facilities, packet optical solutions, optical LAN, and professional services, is already positioned in various parts of the world, including in Europe and the US.  The current move into the Philippines is part of its expansion in the Asia-Pacific region.

For Tellabs, partnering with MEC is a no-brainer because of the company’s track record when it comes to nationwide reach and its support in the business environment in the Philippines.

“Its reach nationwide allows us to open widely in the Philippines, from the north down to the south, as we gear away from LAN,” said Asencio. “The Philippines is always a growing market for us. This is not the first partner for Tellabs in the Philippines, but this is the biggest partner for optical LAN.”

Established in 1995, MEC is an IT distributor offering an array of solutions, technologies and infrastructure for connectivity, wireless infrastructure, wired networks, IP and unified communications, network security and IP surveillance, servers and storage, and network performance and troubleshooting, and pre-sales and post-sales support services. The company has over 800 active business partners nationwide and carrying 23 products, including Tellabs’ optical LAN.

“With our partnership with Tellabs, we are vocal that we will deliver to the market the best solutions that are ready for future applications, real-time and high-demand applications,” said Joel Carbonilla, AVP for corporate communication of MEC. “We have a team that goes directly to the end users to gather what they need, what projects to put up, and gives feedback to know what technology is needed, and bring the right technology in the Philippines.”

To meet the growing communication needs of the enterprises, large amounts of bandwidth, which triggers a corresponding change in the LAN infrastructure architecture, is necessary. This factor drives the growing trend to replace the traditional copper-based networks with the more efficient fiber-based optical LAN solution. This new technology focuses on significantly reducing capital expenditures by 70%, lowers up to 80% of power needs, saves up to 90% of space requirements, environment-friendly, and reaches up to 18 miles across a campus.

According to Asencio, “businesses are consolidating and people are trying to create an environment for better technology to reduce capital expenditures and simplify operations. These are the trends that drive companies like Tellabs.”  With the partnership with MEC, it allows us to move and allow our partners or users or clients to be more efficient on how we do the business, how technologies are being driven and how to better optimize the operations in the long run.”
