Barracuda swims into local IT security market with Transition Systems

Barracuda Networks, Inc., a provider of cloud-connected security, storage and application delivery appliances, has appointed security and network solutions distributor, Transition Systems Philippines, Inc. (TSP), as its value-added distributor in the Philippines.

(TSP), as its value-added distributor in the Philippines. In this capacity, TSP is currently the local provider of Barracuda products that protect customers from email, Web and instant messaging threats.

Barracuda Networks has a comprehensive product portfolio that includes more than a dozen solutions that support network security and storage. These applications, deployable in appliance, virtual appliance, cloud and mixed form factors, provide users protection to solve their IT problems more efficiently and cost effectively while maintaining a high level of customer support and satisfaction.

The company was established in 2003 as a one product company with an anti-spam appliance for enterprises. Today, the vendor has product lines across security, networking and storage.

Barracuda Networks chose the Philippines as one of the company’s areas of focus in Asia-Pacific because of the country’s favorable economic performance.

Transition Systems is a distributor of security and networking products and solutions in Asia. It operates in Singapore, Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Content security offerings
Barracuda’s content security offerings, available as hardware and virtual appliance solutions, consist of Barracuda Spam and Virus Firewall intended for spam and virus blocking, data protection, DoS prevention, email continuity, encryption and policy management; and Barracuda Web Filter which enables connected businesses to benefit from new technologies and online tools without exposing to malicious content, lost productivity, wasted bandwidth and data loss. It also has Barracuda Email Security Service and Barracuda Web Security Service which provide pure cloud and hybrid cloud versions of its content security offerings.

Other Barracuda security products include Barracuda NG Firewall, Barracuda Firewall, Barracuda Web Application Firewall, and Barracuda SSL VPN.

Last September, the company launched Barracuda Backup 5.4, a powerful, all-in-one solution that includes software, backup agents and redundant storage needed for physical, virtual and hybrid environments. With an offsite vaulting, the solution extends the life of local appliances, and availability of local caches greater than 100TB. This product also deploys Cloud LiveBoot which allows virtual machines to boot from the backup appliance or from the cloud in the event that access to local servers or primary storage is lost.

Other storage solutions are composed of Barracuda Message Archiver, Copy and SignNow.

Application delivery controller market
Meanwhile, October 2013 marked the entry of Barracuda Networks into the application delivery controller market when it released the Barracuda ADC, an integrated solution that combines load balancing, application acceleration, application control, and Web application security into a single, high-performance platform.

Barracuda ADC combines the advanced capabilities of the firm’s purpose-built appliances in application security and load balancing, which have an installed base of more than 17,000 data center customers around the world.

Available as a multiport platform with fiber and copper network interfaces as well as a virtual appliance, Barracuda ADC is designed to meet the performance requirement of today’s high-traffic data centers having up to 32x1GbE ports and up to 8x10GbE ports. It has a complete application security against attacks at both the network and the application layer, including OWASP Top-10 attacks such as SQL injection, cookie tampering, and session hijacking without impacting system performance. It also has extensive certifications, templates and deployment guides for common applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint, Oracle Applications, Web servers, and virtual servers.
