LG’s G2 smartphone is now in the Philippines. The G2 boasts features that could potentially help LG further increase its marketshare.
Powered by the insanely fast 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, the LG G2 Android LTE smartphone features the world’s first Rear Key, which is used for switching on and off, activating LG’s QuickMemo, and launching the 13-megapixel Full HD camera.
The 13 MP camera is enhanced by the optical image stabilization (OIS) technology which stabilizes the focus—meaning it’s great for action shots or low-light situations—while photos and videos are taken. With the 9-point autofocus and rapid capture feature, the G2’s camera makes it one of the fastest in the market today.
The device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display for superior graphics and contains the industry’s most powerful battery capacity at 3,000 mAh siO+. The G2 also boasts of the industry’s first 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi sound playback for studio-quality audio.
Still on sound, the G2’s audio zoom features lets you zero in on a specific audio source by zooming in on your subject while recording video. Afterwards, you can hear it more clearly during playback.
This unique feature uses three stereo mikes, which amplify sound from the specified angle and deemphasize the surrounding noise, so you can zoom in on the sounds you want to hear, and tune out those you don’t.
Unlike AMOLED displays, which automatically turn down brightness to conserve battery life and over-saturate colors to compensate, IPS technology enables G2 to display bright whites and genuine colors without draining battery life.
Meanwhile, upgrades have been made in the user experience (UX) features already found in previous LG smartphones, such as QuickMemo, QuickTranslator, QuickRemote, Audio Zoom, Dual Camera, and Dual Recording.
For blemish-free images, G2’s camera lens is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass (Mohs relative hardness of 9), the second strongest material after the diamond (Mohs relative hardness of 10).
One feature which wowed attendees at the G2 launch in Solaire is the Shot & Clear feature. This feature captures the background before a moving person or object enters your shot, and blends it with the picture you’ll take seconds later, eliminating any unwanted moving objects.
The LG G2 also incorporates new and practical UX features such as KnockON, which turns the display on or off by tapping twice with a finger; Guest Mode, which protects the owner’s privacy by displaying only pre-selected apps when guests access the phone; and Answer Me, which automatically answers the call after lowering the ringtone when the phone is raised to one’s ear.
Multitasking
With its 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Processor featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon Chipset, the G2 can easily run multiple processes at once, delivering up to a 50 percent increase in graphics performance and faster CPU speeds.
The G2’s QSlide feature brings a PC-like experience to your G2, with the ability to view three windows at once on your display. With this feature, you can open two QSlide apps over your main screen, and even adjust their window size and transparency. You can maximize on-screen multitasking for a range of apps, including Videos, Memo, Calendar, Browser, and Calculator.
You can also convert the G2 into a programmable remote with QuickRemote for all your infrared devices—and turn on almost any home entertainment system from one convenient location.
As for the design, the shape of G2 is thinner with round smooth edges. There are no buttons around the edges.
“LG G2 is the pinnacle innovation in the current line-up of LG Mobile,” Lawrence Kim, vice president of LG Electronics Philippines’ Mobile Communications division, stated. “Its key message ‘Learning from You’ incorporates a number of revolutionary consumer-based components that are set to become trendsetters in today’s smartphone market, shaping the smartphone of choice worldwide.”
LG Electronics Philippines garnered a momentous market growth in the competitive smartphone segment, according to latest data from GfK.
The consumer electronics giant gained “significant, amount-based market share” driven by the success of its Optimus L Series line-up released early this year. Both first and second generation L Series mobile phones targeted low to middle market segments.
The G2 is noticeably without the “Optimus” which is the smartphone brand that comes with the models of LG Mobile. Kim explained that this signifies a “human-inspired” smartphone with features that will revolutionize a highly competitive industry.
The G2 has a suggested retail price of Php29,990.
