Dubbed as the “Quad-Core ng Bayan” (Quad-Core of the People), the Philippine-made Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0 is the latest addition to the growing local low-cost smartphone market. Launched September 20, Flare 2.0 follows the success of its predecessor, the dual-core Cherry Mobile Flare.
A product of collaboration between Cherry Mobile and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, Inc., Flare 2.0 is up for sale at Cherry Mobile Concept Store in SM North Edsa starting September 21. It will be retailed nationwide starting late September. Available in black and white colors, the unit, made affordable for everyone, retails at just P3,999.00.
“We are delighted to be able to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. on this product to deliver a superior mobile experience to consumers. With significant upgrades in hardware and software, the new Flare 2.0 is powerful, yet still affordable,” said Lonson Alejandrino, Product Manager for Smartphones, Cherry Mobile.
The Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with quad-core CPU running at 1.2GHz per core. Each core does not have to work as hard to accomplish a task so it draws less battery power. This enables the user to switch seamlessly between applications, display and capture content in HD, enjoy premium multichannel audio, take high quality photos, and navigate through towns and cities with ease.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor can also be coupled with Snapdragon Battery Guru, which can extend battery performance and improve user experience by intelligently making changes that optimize battery life without compromising device functionality.
Caters from the entry level smartphones to the premium ones, the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is designed to deliver the performance, features, connectivity, and battery life that consumers expect from high volume smartphones and tablets.
This processor features 3G connectivity, enabling high-quality voice calls and support for dual SIMs for ease of switching networks, a high performance GPU, and spans hardware, software, services and ecosystem tools.
The unit can hold lots of content with its 4GB memory that can be extended to 32GB with the microSD card slot. It also features a 5MP autofocus camera, a VGA front-facing camera, a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display, and an FM radio.
“In line with our commitment to making the benefits of technology accessible to all Filipinos, we are very proud of the Flare 2.0, which we have dubbed as ‘Quad-Core ng Bayan.’ We believe that advanced technology is for everyone and low-cost should not always mean low-capability,” said Poch Zenarosa, Marketing Head for Cherry Mobile.
“Users will be able to do more while having to recharge less with the Flare 2.0, as the device is capable of running multiple apps and switching between them without sacrificing performance or battery life,” explained Alejandrino.
Technology is always shaping and changing the behavior of consumers with regards mobile device usage. According to Mantosh Malhotra, Qualcomm’s Regional Head for Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia, smartphone shipment is two times those of personal computers in 2012. Consumers behavior always change – there are those who used their mobile devices for games, taking pictures or videos, access social networking sites, browsing the Internet, checking emails, and more.
