Globe Telecom clinched a partnership with UK-based telecom solutions provider iVitta to offer an exclusive SIM card that will provide Filipino seafarers “the lowest call and text rates” when communicating with their families and loved ones in the Philippines.

The Globe Seafarer SIM allows Filipino mariners from anywhere in the world to regularly keep in touch with their loved ones back home at affordable call and text rates without the need for expensive satellite equipment connections using two  numbers in one SIM – an international mobile number and a local Globe mobile number. Using their international mobile number, seafarers can call the Philippines for as low as US$0.20 (Php8.60) per minute and text for as low as US$0.10 (Php4.34) per message.

On the other hand, with the seafarer’s local Globe mobile number, calls from the Philippines using a Globe or TM number will be charged with local Philippine calling rates of only P6.50 per minute.

The Globe Seafarer SIM Card can be used on most networks using a global interconnection with over 650 GSM networks worldwide. Using bespoke software and intricate new technology, the SIM Card is revolutionary on its own by allowing seafarers from almost anywhere around the globe to make and receive calls and texts at the most affordable rates.

Globe International Business Group Head Rizza Maniego-Eala said, “We welcome another milestone as we continue to reach our Filipino seafarers worldwide with the launch of the new Globe Seafarer SIM in partnership with iVitta. With this innovative offer, our Filipino seafarers only need just one SIM to call and text their families in the Philippines. Even as they dock from one country to the other, they will enjoy the convenience of using just one SIM while being charged the most affordable call and text rates, even lower than using local SIM cards.”

“Similarly, their family members and loved ones back home in the Philippines don’t need to confuse themselves what number to call or text especially when the seafarer is travelling port-to-port and using different local numbers. With the Globe Seafarer SIM, seafarers have one single virtual Globe number which charges their relatives back home local calling rates, making communication more affordable. Seafarer families can now enjoy longer conversations through calls or texts with the new Globe Seafarer SIM powered by iVitta. We are excited to provide another innovative and value-for-money service to the members of the Philippine maritime community with the Globe Seafarer SIM,” Eala added.

Simon Black, CEO of iVitta shared, “We are delighted to be working with Globe Telecom. Their influence in the Philippines is exceptional and we hope for a long and prosperous partnership as we expand our presence among Filipino seafarers with our roster of innovative services.” iVitta Mobile specializes in providing low-cost global telecoms solutions to the maritime and offshore communities.
